International Tax Advisory: frequently asked questions

How does corporate income tax work in Latvia?

Latvia applies corporate income tax mainly when profits are distributed, for example as dividends, or treated as deemed distributions such as certain non-business expenses. Retained and reinvested profits are generally not taxed until distributed. Under the standard regime distributed profit is taxed at 20% CIT; for dividends there is also an alternative regime of 15% CIT plus 6% personal income tax.

Does a Latvian subsidiary need transfer pricing documentation?

Latvian companies with transactions with related parties may be required to prepare transfer pricing documentation, depending on transaction volumes. We assess whether you need it and advise how to put it in order.

Should we set up a branch or a subsidiary in Latvia?

It depends on liability, profit repatriation, substance and administrative needs. We compare the tax and compliance consequences of each option for your specific situation.
